Wiltshire Providing Free Meals for Eligible children

Whilst Salisbury’s MP did not vote for Salisbury or Wilton’s children to receive government funded free meals for eligible children, Wiltshire Council has decided to provide free meals for those eligible families during the October half term holiday. Many families, who any other year would have managed perfectly fine, are struggling under the weight of the Covid-19 pandemic. Wilton HELP! feels strongly that families and children who need support at this time should be able to access this. But we do not know if people are aware of the scheme or how to apply for this – or whether applying for this actually provides the support in a timely manner.

The scheme is facilitated by the Wiltshire Wellbeing Hub Team, who can be contacted by email: wellbeinghub@wiltshire.gov.uk or by calling 0300 003 4576. They are available to provide information regarding application Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. The scheme is for anyone entitled to free school meals or universal credit and finding the cost of food a challenge over half term.

Wilton HELP! want to understand whether the scheme is accessible and responsive for our residents. Please help us to understand the situation by completing this anonymous questionnaire.

Moving forward with Wilton HELP!

During the last three months it has been established that Wilton Town Council, whilst supporting the work of Wilton HELP! are unable to facilitate this project in house within their staffing circumstances.

The people of Wilton in survey advised that they would like this scheme to continue, and that the legacy of Wilton HELP! was important to them. As a result Wilton HELP! has moved to become a Community Interest Company. This means that it is able to fundraise to support the community efforts, support volunteers, and faciliate the aims of Wilton HELP!

Wilton HELP! Community Interest Company is a special form of a non charitable limited company. It exists primarily to benefit a community and pursue social purpose. It cannot make profit for shareholders.

Wilton HELP! has now been offered 50% of the funding requested from the Wilton Town Council, and this will enable the scheme to start to transition from Wilton Town Council to the Wilton HELP! Community Interest Company.
